Here is information and recordings about the works written for and dedicated to the Slava Ukraini Winds:
"Composed in 2024 for woodwind quartet written for Slava Ukraini Winds, which they premiered on August 6, 2024, in Saskatoon, Canada. The title refers to the Corona Australis (Southern Crown) constellation, reflecting the composer’s conceptual inspiration: representing cosmic space through the interplay of timbres in the woodwind quartet. The work can be interpreted as a sonic depiction of a star cluster, combining: 1) Astronomical level — musical images as “star points” and “light rays.” 2) Symbolic level — the crown as a sign of unity, cyclicality, and energetic wholeness. and 3) Formal level — an arch-like structure (climax, expansion, dissolution).
Each instrument serves a symbolic and functional role:
Flute — high “stellar” registers
Oboe — piercing “light beams”
Clarinet — bridge between high and low registers
Bassoon — foundational “cosmic depth”
The woodwind quartet allows transparent polyphony, spectral blending, and a halo-like overtone effect.
The formal structure of the work is broken down into the following sections: Introduction — sparse textures, pointillistic motifs, Development — interwoven motifs, gradual tension accumulation, Climax — full sonority, rich harmonies, Coda — fading texture into silence. The work uses the following harmonic and modal organization: Modal structures, quartal/quintal harmonies, Clusters for cosmic ambiguity, dynamics and spatial impression, microdynamic fluctuations and gradual textural density convey a sense of spatial depth without electronics.
“Corona Australis” exemplifies a contemporary chamber composition combining conceptual approach (depiction of cosmic space), instrumental and timbral experimentation, clear formal structure with arch-shaped dynamics. The work demonstrates modern uses of classical instruments in a new timbral and formal practice, where each instrument fulfills both musical and symbolic functions." - Dmytro Demchenko
"я написала твір досить швидко. Якось саме йшло... мені легко давалося писати твір. Я слідувала своєму інстинкту. Після того як я написала твір я почувала себе дуже легко... якби я випустила в світ мою дитину....Ви чудово зіграли пьесу. На дуже великому професійному рівні!" - Tatiana Stankovych
"I wrote the work pretty quickly. Something just came... I easily happened to write the work. I followed my instincts. After this as I wrote the work I felt it very easily... As if I brought into the world my child... The group played the piece great. On a very grand professional level!" (Translated Zachary Senick)
"The piece has been written specifically for Slava Ukraini Winds, taking into account the prevailing trends in contemporary music. As I am currently experimenting with various compositional styles, this work was conceived as a synthesis of traditional minimalist techniques — with phasing as its structural foundation — while also embracing the emerging neominimalist tendency toward a unified, universally accessible musical idiom.
The composition features gradually shifting rhythmic patterns that overlap and intertwine, fostering a sense of organic, continuous movement. Instead of relying on dramatic contrasts, the piece builds energy through subtle transformations of a single musical idea, allowing listeners to intuitively engage and find their own connection to the music. The result is a work that feels both intricately crafted and naturally flowing, inviting both the ensemble and the audience into a shared experience." - Andriy Lehki
